Chinese tech giant Huawei is keen to create a European Logistics Hub at Piraeus Container Terminal’s facilities (PCT), as an entry point for its products into the regional market.

Reno Fujun, Huawei South-East Europe’s CEO, stated the Chinese company’s initiative underlines Greece‘s attractiveness for high added-value investments and the development of technological infrastructure.

Fujun believes the creation of a European Logistics Hub in Piraeus will be a significant project for the global supply chain and consists of a strategic initiative as he says it will guarantee contributions of EUR7.8 million to the Greek economy per year, the creation of 30 new jobs at first stage and a 10% yearly growth rate.

“2024 was a highly important year, as it marked 20 years of Huawei’s operation in the country. This represents a path full of contributions in Greece with high added-value,” said Fujun.

PCT’s CEO, Captain Wang Jihang said “The two companies joined their forces aiming at accelerating trade and innovation in Greece and Europe. Meanwhile, this decision underlines PCT’s unshakeable dedication in technology and sustainable practices, as Piraeus port is the cornerstone of global trade.”

Huawei’s investment in Piraeus seems to be welcomed by Greek government’s executives, as Greece wishes to attract foreign direct investments by technological companies and lead the way in digital transformation.

Greek Deputy Minister of Development, Anna Mani-Papadimitriou, welcomed the investment interest by international technological companies and highlighted that this development is a step towards Piraeus’ upgrade as technological hub in Eastern Mediterranean. “Logistics are contributing some 11.5% of Greece’s GDP, with EUR23.8 billion, and are characterised as one of the most important pillars of Greek economy,” said Mani-Papadimitriou.
